Cedar Rapids police, fire phones down, but 911 still working
CEDAR RAPIDS -- Some Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Department phone numbers are not working properly today, but the service outage is not affecting 911 calls.
Officials say the outage was caused by a concrete contractor who cut a fiber-optic connection about 10 a.m.
Emergency 911 calls to both departments are still working, and the main public number for the police station is still functioning. The main number for the Fire Department, however, is not.
Most internal phone numbers are also out of order.
Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said public safety is not compromised. Officials did not have an estimate on when repairs would be complete.
