Cedar Rapids pipe beating death trial is reset to October

The first-degree murder trial of Jason Blackcloud, 34, of Cedar Rapids, was reset Wednesday to Oct. 4 in Linn County District Court.
Blackcloud is accused of beating to death Jerry Hurt, 46, of Cedar Rapids, in 2008. According to police, Blackcloud hit Hurt in the head with a piece of pipe as Hurt was walking along 14th Street SE.
A jury pool of 56 will be called and the trial is expected to last two weeks.
