Cedar Rapids picnic table ablaze
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to a park bench blaze Friday afternoon. There were reports of black smoke visible from I-380 northbound.
Firefighters were sent to St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 1340 Third Ave. SE at 2:25 p.m. regarding a small fire under a park bench, said Greg Buelow, Cedar Rapids public safety spokesperson.
As fire crews were headed to the scene, another 911 call was received that there was a picnic table on fire, Buelow said.
The fire was extinguished, and did not spread to the nearby church. There is no word currently on the cause of the fire.
