Emergency crews had to fly a Cedar Rapids man to the hospital Thursday night after a crash involving a semi-trailer truck in Poweshiek County, the Iowa State Patrol said.
According to State Patrol reports, a semi driven by Larry Wheatley, 72, of Lincoln, Neb., lost control of his truck on Interstate 80 near Grinnell around 9 p.m. Thursday. The semi then rolled onto its side, blocking both eastbound lanes of the interstate. Shortly after, Lawrence R. Michaels, 32, of Cedar Rapids, crashed his sport-utility vehicle into the semi.
Emergency crews airlifted Michaels to an area hospital. His condition was not immediately available. Wheatley was also taken to a hospital.
The crash shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 until 1 a.m. Friday.
The crash remains under investigation.
