CEDAR RAPIDS - A federal judge ruled last week that a Cedar Rapids man previously convicted of child pornography will remain in jail pending trial on new charges of child pornography.
Craig Watters, 30, was charged Wednesday in U.S. District Court with one count each of distribution, receipt, and possession of child pornography.
An indictment shows Watters distributed, received and possessed child pornography on a computer in 2014. Watters was convicted in federal court in 2009 for receipt of child pornography and sentenced to five years in prison.
If convicted on the new charge, Watters faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and possibly up to life in federal prison. He also faces a $750,000 fine and five years to life on supervised release following any prison time.
Watters' trial is set for Nov. 20.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel and is being investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
