Cedar Rapids man pleads guilty in federal court to producing child porn

CEDAR RAPIDS - A 33-year-old Cedar Rapids man pleaded guilty last week in U.S. District Court to producing child pornography.

Scott Schupp pleaded guilty to one count of child production last Thursday. In the plea agreement he admitted he sexually assaulted and photographed an 11-year-old girl in the fall of 2008.

Schupp faces 15 to 30 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing hasn't been set at this time.

Schupp is currently serving a 10-year sentence for third-degree sexual abuse in a Linn County District Court case.

This case was brought as part of the Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
