Cedar Rapids man loses garage in fire

A Cedar Rapids man lost his garage, his motorcycle and other possessions when a fire broke out in his detached garage at around 2:15 p.m. Friday, November 20.
William Behm was working on a carburetor for his motorcycle in his garage at 1722 4th Ave SE when the bike backfired and a fire started. Fire Captain Andy Olesen said Behm tried using a bucket of water to put out the fire, but the water actually spread the flames like a grease fire.
Firefighters put out the blaze quickly, preventing it from spreading to a nearby garage. No one was injured but Olesen said the garage and its possessions, including Behm's motorcycle, were a total loss.
