A Cedar Rapids man was identified Monday by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office as the person who died over the weekend after being pulled from icy Lake Macbride.
Jack Peacock, 85, was removed from the lake by members of the Solon Fire Department after a passerby noticed a pair of gloves on the lake next to broken ice and called 911, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Officials don’t know how long Peacock was under water. He was taken by ambulance to University of Iowa Health Care, but he did not survive.
An obituary for Peacock by Murdoch Funeral Homes and Cremation Service states that he was fishing Saturday when he died.
“From a young age, Jack developed a love for hunting and fishing. Later in life, he started golfing. He fell in love with the sport and all the many relationships and friends that he made through the years while golfing,” the obituary reads. “The family would like everyone to find inspiration in Jack’s love of life and the great outdoors and find comfort in knowing he died doing something he loved.”
