CEDAR RAPIDS — Jim Kvach of Cedar Rapids has had quite a year.
Since turning 80, he has bowled a 300 game and, last Saturday, collected his first hole-in-one.
He's been golfing and bowling for more than 60 years.
'Well I just teed off with my 7-iron and watched it roll up their and roll right in the hole,' Kvach said after acing the par-3, 147-yard 9th hole at Airport National. 'I screamed.'
Kvach also had never rolled a perfect game until this year.
'I had 299 before, but never had a 300,' he said. 'I blanked it all out. Didn't watch anyone behind me or nothing else and just kept my mind straight down the ally.'
After getting that last strike, Kvach said, he 'just turned around and had a tear in my eyes.'
'That was unbelievable because when he left that night he said I will call you when I get a 300 and he never ever said that before and he called me,' his wife, Lorretta, said.
Another milestone this year is the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this month.
He said the key to long marriage is simple.
'Yes dear, no dear,' he said.
Kvach said he is far from done. He wants to hit another hole-in-one and roll another 300 game. He wants to live for another 35 years — until he's 115 years old.
'I just want to stick around longer to piss people off,' he said.
