A Cedar Rapids man with 30 previous convictions pleaded guilty Tuesday to illegally possessing a firearm in federal court.
Kendan Fonville, 22, also known as 'Fudd,” was convicted of one count of possession of a firearm by an unlawful drug user and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
According to the plea agreement, Fonville admitted he illegally possessed a Bersa Thunder .380 caliber pistol in March 2012. He also admitted to knowing the pistol had an obliterated serial number and that he was an unlawful drug user at the time he had the pistol.
Fonville has been in the custody since his arrest in October 2014. U.S. Chief Magistrate Jon Scoles said at his detention hearing that Fonville 'is virtually a one-man crime spree.” He explained that Fonville has 30 convictions, including 11 for assault, six for interference with official acts, four for public intoxication, and three for trespass.
Fonville faces up to 15 years in prison, a fine up to $500,000 and up to six years of supervised release following any prison time. Sentencing isn't set at this time.
