Cedar Rapids man charged with public intoxication, assault

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man is charged with public intoxication and assault on a peace officer after police say he was physically combative toward officers and bit one of them in the right arm while at a Cedar Rapids hospital.

Shane Holten, 42, was arrested for public intoxication at 4:41 p.m. Sunday after officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Eighth Street NW. Holten was found on the porch of a home, said Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow. Officers later determined Holten did not know who lived at the residence and did not have permission to be on the porch, Buelow said.

Holten was arrested and taken to Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital, where he became physically combative toward officers inside the emergency room, Buelow said.
