Cedar Rapids man charged with beating another man, breaking 30 facial bones

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man was charged Tuesday with robbery and other charges for beating up another man outside a bar, breaking over 30 bones in his face, and then stealing his wallet.
Joshua D. McCormick, 27, is charged with first-degree robbery, willful injury and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, marijuana (penalty enhanced). The complaint states McCormick and Alvaro Gomez agreed to fight outside the Bever Creek Saloon, 1010 2nd Ave. SW, on Nov. 30. During the fight, McCormick hit Gomez when Gomez reached for a machete that was on the outside railing.
The complaint states McCormick continued beating Gomez after he fell to the ground and he broke over 30 bones in Gomez's face. McCormick then rolled over Gomez and stole his wallet. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
McCormick admitted to beating Gomez. He was later arrested, and police found marijuana on him. He was previously convicted of possession of marijuana in 2013.
