Cedar Rapids man castrates himself

A 71-year-old man was taken to a hospital after police say he castrated himself Monday morning.
Emergency responders went to a southeast Cedar Rapids home around 11:10 a.m. when the man reported the incident himself. The man told a police dispatcher he castrated himself for religious reasons using a razor blade.
A few minutes after arriving at the gated community residence, a police officer confirmed the report.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the man was transported to St. Luke's Hospital. His name was not released.
