CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while barred.
William Jefferson III, 34, was parked in his van in the middle of the road in the 1700 Block of D Avenue NE at 10:18 p.m., police said. He pulled over to the side of the road and shut off his lights as Cedar Rapids officers approached in their car, police said.
Officers spotted Jefferson again later that night in the 200 Block of 18th Street SW, when Jefferson turned off his lights again and parked, said Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow.
Buelow said officers identified Jefferson as the driver of the van and found he had a valid warrant for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while barred.
Police said Jefferson had a plastic bag with several small bags of marijuana inside on him and a subsequent search of the van revealed a digital scale and two more bags with marijuana inside. Overall, Buelow said, police collected 57 grams of marijuana as evidence.
