CEDAR RAPIDS - A 29-year-old Cedar Rapids man arrested on charges of indecent contact with three children in Benton County in August 2010 was transported to Johnson County on accusations of second-degree sexual abuse of a nine-year-old boy in May of the same year.
Reports indicate that James W. Hansen, of 57 Devonwood Avenue SW, was first arrested for indecent contact with a child on August 12, 2010 after an investigation revealed that he had allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with multiple children.
As a result of the investigation, Hansen faced charges of two counts of second degree sexual abuse, two counts of lascivious acts with a child and one count of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.
On Friday, Hansen was found to be incompetent to stand trial in Benton County after multiple professional evaluations.
Hansen was brought to Johnson County to make an appearance in court on Tuesday morning regarding accusations of second-degree sexual abuse stemming from a May 2010 incident in Johnson County.
Johnson County Sheriff's Office Records indicate the alleged incident occurred on May 26, 2010 at Sandy Beach campground in Johnson County. Hansen is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a boy who was nine-years-old.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office records, Hansen allegedly admitted that he had touched the child.
Hansen was released from the Johnson County Jail after his appearance. Iowa Court Records indicate that he shall remain under custody of the Benton County Sheriff's Office and be supervised by DCS until his pending cases in Johnson County and Linn County are resolved.
Until that time, Hansen will participate in a mental health re-entry program. After the cases are resolved, he is scheduled to be placed in a tailored living program in Hiawatha once spaces are available at the facility.
