Police are investigating after the second armed robbery at a Cedar Rapids liquor store in seven months.
Officers rushed to Point Liquor and Tobacco around 11:20 p.m. Thursday when the hold-up was reported. No one was injured in the incident.
According to police, a man came into the business with a sweat shirt pulled up over his face and said he was looking for a certain kind of alcohol. When the 25-year-old clerk asked him to pull his sweat shirt down, a second man entered the store with a handgun.
The gunman pointed the weapon at the clerk and demanded money, police said. The two men got an undisclosed amount of cash and ran north from the store. Investigators are unsure if they used a vehicle to get away, Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
The gunman was described as a black male in his 20s, around 5 feet tall and 150 pounds, police said. He was wearing a hooded sweat shirt and a hat. The second suspect was a black male in his early 20s, around 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds. He was also wearing a hooded sweat shirt and a hat.
Police searched the area, but did not find the suspects. Surveillance video monitors the store, but Hamblin was unsure if police had obtained it yet.
Police arrested two men in connection with
the Sept. 15, 2011 robbery of the same store. Aaron L. Jackson, 22, and Jeremy T. Dyson, 18, both of Cedar Rapids, were both charged with first-degree robbery in the case. Jackson last month pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Dyson's trial is scheduled for July.
