Leaf-rakers, take heed: High volume has pushed leaf collection in Cedar Rapids about a day behind schedule, according to city officials.
Here's the news release from the streets department:
Leaf collection crews are dealing with an overwhelming volume of leaves, which have already fallen and raked to the curb. Leaf crews have been collecting in excess of 230 tons of leaves each day since Wednesday, Nov. 4. Crews have also been working long hours to reach as many properties as possible and worked until 10 p.m. Friday evening completing Thursday's routes. Crews worked on Saturday, Nov. 7 collecting Friday's routes, but completed only half of Friday's routes by 6 p.m. before calling it a day.As a result of the extreme volume of leaves, loose leaf collection is behind by one full day. Crews will continue collecting Friday's routes on Monday, Nov. 9. Once Friday's routes are completed, crews will begin collecting Monday's routes, etc. etc.The Solid Waste and Recycling Division will continue working into the evening each day this week and our goal is to get caught up with loose leaf collection by the end of this week and asks for residents' patience with leaf collection.
