The first-degree kidnapping trial of Keith Elson Jr., who is accused of kidnapping and raping a Kwik Shop clerk in May, was reset Thursday to next year.
Elson, 54, of Cedar Rapids, will stand trial March 7 in Linn County District Court. A pre-trial conference was also reset to Feb. 24.
Elson is accused of kidnapping a 19-year-old employee at knife point from the Kwik Shop, 1001 First Ave. SW, May 17. The woman told police Elson also raped her during the incident.
Elson through his attorney filed his intent to claim insanity, diminished capacity and intoxication as his defense in July.
A judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation to be conducted on Elson in August, as requested by the prosecution.
