GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels continued their offensive assault against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers via a 14-6 win Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.
Cedar Rapids (20-15) scored 12 runs in a win over the T-Rats Friday night and scored seven runs in the first inning Saturday, knocking out starting pitcher Jake Drossner. Wisconsin closed within 7-5 eventually, but a five-run seventh inning put the game away.
Alex Perez and Brian Olson had three hits apiece in a 17-hit attack for the Kernels, who conclude the series Sunday afternoon. Every starter had a hit, minus J.J. Fernandez, who still walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
Starting pitcher Dereck Rodriguez (1-4) went the first six innings, allowing six runs but notching his first Midwest League win. Michael Theofanopoulos finished up, striking out six in three relief innings and recording the save.
