CEDAR RAPIDS — The below-freezing temperatures of the last week have done one positive thing: brought the return of ice skating at Cedar Rapids’ Hughes Park.
The city announced this week that the rink at the park, 2100 Wilson Ave. SW, is ready for ice skating.
This weekend, the city’s Rollin’ Recmobile will be at Hughes Park on Saturday and Sunday, from 1-3 p.m. each day, with free ice skates available to use, while supplies last. A limited number of push trainers also is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The city’s announcement states that the Recmobile will be at the park each Saturday and Sunday from 1-3 p.m., but that is dependent on the weather.
The Hughes Park rink is unsupervised and should be used at skaters’ discretion.
Conditions may change quickly due to weather, and city staff may need to temporarily close the rink for safety or maintenance as needed. For updates on rink availability and closures, keep an eye on the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
