No one was injured Wednesday morning when a car’s engine caught fire in Cedar Rapids.
According to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, the fire happened at 10:32 a.m. Wednesday in the intersection of Edgewood Road and 42nd St NE.
Firefighters arrived 4 minutes after the fire started and found the front end of the car fully engulfed in flames. They used a water line on-board the fire engine to extinguish the car.
The department released traffic camera footage from the intersection that showed the driver and only occupant of the car escaping safely. The driver reported the check engine light came on immediately before the fire started.
Traffic at the intersection was delayed for about 50 minutes before the vehicle was towed and the roadway was re-opened, according to the release.
