Cedar Rapids fire chief departs after nine months
Feb. 16, 2011 2:34 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Fire Chief Stephen Reid announced on Wednesday that he was retiring from the Fire Department at the close of the workday.
Reid, 59, was hired to lead the department last April and began work May 10.
Of note, the City Council hired him on April 13, the same evening it approved a separation agreement with former City Manager Jim Prosser, who named Reid as his pick for chief from three finalists.
At the time of accepting the Cedar Rapids post, Reid was operating a consulting service in Washington, D.C., where he had been past deputy chief of emergency medical services.
In a statement Wednesday, Reid thanked the department for providing him with the opportunity for professional and personal development.
Stephen M. Reid is sworn in during his official inauguration as the new Fire Chief for the city of Cedar Rapids on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Central Fire Station on First Street in northwest Cedar Rapids. Reid's family came from Maryland to his ceremony. (Julie Koehn/The Gazette)
