Cedar Rapids fire captain appeals job termination
Jul. 19, 2013 4:00 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Fire Captain Tom Mackey has lost his job and is appealing the termination, his attorney, Bill Roemerman of Cedar Rapids, confirmed on Friday.
Mackey's job status with the Fire Department came to light this week when the city's Civil Service Commission announced that it would meet on Monday to set a hearing for Mackey.
The commission meets at 8 a.m. Monday to set a date for the appeal hearing.
Mackey, who joined the Fire Department in January 1985, also works as the paid, part-time director of the ambulance service in Tipton, where he lives. He was hired for that post in May 2012.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department and the city's Human Resources Department declined to comment about Mackey termination other than to say his last day with the city was July 2.
Mackey could not be reached on Friday.
