CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids demonstration set to take place today in solidarity with a black motorist shot by a Cedar Rapids police officer has been rescheduled.
Due to inclement weather, the Iowa Justice Alliance has postponed its demonstration — initially set to take place today — to Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
The event will still be held at its originally scheduled location — Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 6621 C Ave NE in Cedar Rapids.
All the speakers still plan to attend the Feb. 5 event, said Anna Sheetz, an organizer of the event, in a Facebook post for the event.
The demonstration is planned in solidarity with Jerime Mitchell, a man shot during a Cedar Rapids traffic stop on Nov. 1. Organizers hope the event can encourage change in policies and practices with the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Linn County Attorney's Office.
For more information on the event, visit the group's Facebook event page here.
