Police used a Taser on a dog when it growled and charged at an officer in Cedar Rapids early Thursday morning.
Officers responded around 12:50 a.m. to the 4500 block of Council Street NE after a German Shepherd jumped a fence and chased two people into a residence. According to the police report, the dog came to the front of the house when officers arrived and began growling.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the Taser stopped the dog as it began to charge, but then it ran away. Officers lost sight of the dog, and the owner was not immediately located.
Police located the dog again just before 8 a.m. Thursday and were able to gain control of it. The dog was returned to its owner. No charges had been filed.
Cedar Rapids Police Department issued Taser X26 Electronic Control Device (ECD). (Jim Slosiarek/The Gazette)
