Cedar Rapids apartment fire intentionally set, officials say
Investigators say a mattress was intentionally set on fire outside a Cedar Rapids apartment building early Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to Shamrock Apartments, 5005 Johnson Ave. SW, around 12:35 a.m. The first crew to arrive located a burning mattress propped up against an occupied building.
Fire Department spokesman Greg Buelow said siding on the apartment building was damaged, but no one was injured.
An investigation is continuing.
