Cedar Rapids announces schedule for 2017 Bike to Work Week

CEDAR RAPIDS - A slew of events focused on bike education, health incentives and getting people active are slated for next week.
May 15-19 has been deemed Bike to Work Week in Cedar Rapids. May is designated as National Bike Month.
'In celebration of National Bike Month, residents are invited to participate in a variety of bike friendly activities throughout the month of May designed to encourage cycling, enhance bike safety education and continue growing a bike-friendly culture,” according to a news release from city officials.
Here is a look at the scheduled activities:
- Monday, May 15 - Mayor's Bike Ride and Proclamation at 7 a.m. at Red's Public House, 112 Second St. SE.
- Tuesday, May 16 - Pit stops for educational material, snacks and giveaways from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE; First Avenue E at the Fourth Street corridor trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel; and Rockwell Collins, at the corner of F Avenue and Collins Road.
- Wednesday, May 17 - Bike to Lunch with the Mayor. Meet at City Hall, 101 N. First St. SE at 11 a.m. and bike to Sag Wagon, 827 Shaver Road NE. Event concludes by 1 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 17 - The Ride of Silence at 6 p.m. Meet at Marion Square on Seventh Avenue in Marion.
- Thursday, May 18 - Pit stops for educational material, snacks, and giveaways at 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE; First Avenue E at the Fourth Street corridor trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel; and Rockwell Collins, at the corner of F Avenue and Collins Road.
- Thursday, May 18 - Bike Ride to Ely. Meet at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE, at 6 p.m.
- Friday, May 19 - Handlebar Happy Hour/Wrap-up Party at 6 p.m. at Lion Bridge Brewery, 59 16th Ave. SW.
