A 34-year veteran of Casey's General Stores has been named chief executive officer to succeed Chairman and CEO Robert Myers when the latter retires next year.
Terry Handley, president and chief operating officer of the Ankeny-based convenience store chain, has worked in roles that include director of marketing, store operations regional manager, vice president of food service and senior vice president of store operations.
Myers, 68, will retire on April 30, 2016. He has served as Casey's CEO since 2006 and will continue to serve on the company's board of directors following his retirement.
William Kimball, lead director on Casey's board of directors, said in a news release that Myers has overseen significant and profitable growth as Casey's has built and acquired nearly 500 stores.
'Under Bob's leadership, total shareholder return has increased more than 330 percent - triple that of the S&P 500 - and has positioned Casey's favorably for future growth and value creation,” Kimball said.
Commenting on Handley's appointment and experience, Kimball said the board of directors is excited to have an executive of Handley's caliber who can seamlessly step into the CEO role.
'Terry is a true leader who brings deep knowledge of all aspects of our business,” Kimball said. 'The board is confident that Terry is the right person to build on Casey's momentum and guide the Company to the next level.”
On June 8, Casey's reported higher fourth-quarter and full-year earnings per share. The company operates close to 1,900 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas and Nebraska.
