Police say a car knocked over a railroad crossing signal and the driver ran away early Monday morning.
Cedar Rapids police responded to the crossing along C Street SW near the Tait Cummins Sports Complex around 1:25 a.m. when the accident was reported. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said a motorist driving by noticed the wreckage and saw the driver run away.
The driver is described as a male, about 6 feet tall and skinny with brown hair, wearing blue jeans and a red sweat shirt. He ran toward Ely Road, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (319) 398-5491.
Last Tuesday, another car rolled about a mile to the south, on a Highway 30 exit ramp, and the driver took off before police arrived. Police never located that driver.
Police where called to a single vehicle rollover accident at C St. SW just north of Ely Road SW on Monday October 18th, 2010, where the driver of the Toyota Avalon had ran from the scene. Most of the vehicle contents where scattered around the area and a rail road crossing sign was knocked over in the accident. Police are looking for the drive and do not know if the driver was injuried in the accident. (Chris Blake/KCRG-TV)
