A resident called Cedar Rapids police when he didn't recognize the man sitting on his porch early Thursday, and it led to the arrest of a burglary suspect.
Police first received a report of a burglary at 1427 B Ave. NE around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. A resident there said he woke up to find an unknown man inside his house, taking items. When the resident confronted him, the suspect ran east from the house, between A Avenue and B Avenue NE.
A few minutes after police arrived there, dispatchers received a call about an unknown male sitting on a porch two blocks away, in the 1600 block of B Avenue NE. The officers who arrived found a man sitting on the porch, with beer and a bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey.
The man, Deontralius D. Parrow, 18, of 835 15th St. SE, told police he was waiting for a friend who had gone inside the apartment. The residents of the apartments, though, said they didn't know Parrow.
Police brought the burglary victim to the scene, where he identified Parrow as the man who was in his home. The alcohol and some change in Parrow's possession belonged to the victim, police said.
Parrow was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of alcohol under the legal age. He was transported to the Linn County Jail.
