Burglars strike again at former Cedar Rapids library worksite

CEDAR RAPIDS - Burglars have stolen valuable tools from a construction site in downtown Cedar Rapids for the second time this week, police said.
Workers at the site of the former Cedar Rapids Public Library, 500 First St. SE, reported the theft Wednesday morning. Police said tools and copper with an estimated value of $6,530 was taken between 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The most recent theft happened after tools valued at $900 were reported missing from the same work site Monday morning. Police believe those tools were taken sometime after 3:30 p.m. Friday.
Cedar Rapids police said burglars have taken more than $17,000 worth of property, like copper and power tools, from construction sites since April 1. Three sites have been hit since the weekend.
Police are unsure if any the burglaries are being committed by the same person or group of people.
