Burglaries dropping in Cedar Rapids, police say
New numbers just released by the Cedar Rapids Police Department show a decline in burglary reports.
Here's a breakdown of the last seven months:
- June 1, 2009-December 27, 2009--795 burglaries.
- June 1, 2010-December 27, 2010--612 burglaries.
Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the numbers reflect the research done by the police department.
"Looking at trends, looking at where the burglaries could be happening, we are putting officers in the appropriate places," she said.
Hamblin suggested that the numbers may reflect a change in the economy. She noted that crime usually hits a high point during the peak of a recession.
