DES MOINES - Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad canceled his scheduled events for Wednesday to attend the funeral of his father-in-law, who passed away Sunday evening, the governor's office said.
Branstad had no public events scheduled, but had planned to attend campaign events, his spokesman said.
Richard 'Dick” Johnson, 91, father of first lady Chris Branstad, died Sunday at Valley View Village in Des Moines, according to his obituary. A burial service was scheduled for Wednesday morning at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Branstad is to resume his schedule Thursday, his office said. He has three public events scheduled, including an appearance at a press event for the release of a new report on the state of Iowa's wind energy industry.
