Body found after fire on Buchanan County farm

A body was found partly under a skid loader that caught fire Wednesday on a farm east of Quasqueton, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office was called about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday with a report of a skid loader on fire at a farm residence in the 2900 block of York Avenue. The Troy Mills and Quasqueton fire departments responded, as did sheriff’s deputies.

They didn’t find anyone at the scene but doused the fire. Afterward, they found a body under part of the farm equipment, the sheriff’s office said. While they believed they know the identity of the dead man, his remains were taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy and to confirm the identity.

The incident remains under investigation by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office and Buchanan County Medical Examiner.
