IOWA CITY - Country superstar Blake Shelton will headline the first concert inside Kinnick Stadium, slated for Aug. 27, 2016.
the University of Iowa Athletic Department, in partnership with former Hawkeye football player Dallas Clark, announced the event Saturday.
Other performers also will take the stage, which will need to be installed with a crane. The concert will run from 4 to 11 p.m.
The event will raise money for a new foundation launched by Clark called The Native Foundation, which will help Iowans displaced by natural disasters such as tornadoes or floods.
Tickets will be available to Hawkeye football season ticket holders beginning Oct. 5, and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Oct. 7. Tickets start at $39. For details, go to Thebackporchrevival.com/tickets.html
Shelton has topped the country charts consistently since his 2001 debut single, 'Austin,” and continuing on through the recent hit, 'Sangria.” He also has been a coach on NBC-TV's 'The Voice” since its beginnings in 2011.
Kelly Clarkson was scheduled to perform at Kinnick on April 18, 2008, but that concert was canceled.
