A preliminary autopsy report is pending for a 10-year-old Marion girl who police believe died as a result of health issues.
Dr. Dennis Klein, deputy state medical examiner, said today there were numerous tests conducted on the body of Jasmine Maske, of 590 Bentley Drive, Apt. 10, and the preliminary report may not completed for two to six weeks.
Marion police started a death investigation because Jasmine died at home and it's standard procedure, Lt. Scott Elam said Friday. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office as part of that procedure. Jasmine was found dead about 8:16 a.m. Thursday by police and paramedics, according to a search warrant.
Linda Maske, Jasmine's grandmother, said Friday Jasmine, who was born with persistent fetal circulation that caused her lungs to be underdeveloped, has had health issues all her life. She has suffered for years with stomach problems, asthma and migraines.
According to a search warrant, Melissa Maske, Jasmine's mother told police her daughter had been sent home sick Tuesday from Francis Marion Intermediate School. The next day, Jasmine wasn't feeling well, had blurred vision, poor balance and was vomiting.
Linda Maske said Jasmine didn't respond to her mother when she attempted to awaken her daughter around 8 a.m. Thursday.
Maske said her family is anxious to see the autopsy reports, so they can understand what happened to the child.
