KALONA – Authorities say a fire broke out at a saw mill just south of Kalona early this morning.
A 911 caller reported at 5:57 a.m. that Nisly Wood Products, 1319 Hwy. 1, was fully engulfed in flames, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Kalona Fire Chief Steve Yotty says when firefighters arrived one of the two buildings on the site was engulfed in fire with flames at least 10 to 15 feet into the air.
Firefighters from Kalona, Wellman and Riverside are on the scene. Cara Sorrells, 911 supervisor at the sheriff's office, said no injuries have been reported. It took about 25 minutes for the fire to be under control.
Officials were unsure of the official cause.
Simon Nisly owns the company, according to authorities at the scene. He and his two sons run the business.
