SHELLSBURG – Authorities have identified the person who died in a crash early Sunday morning near Shellsburg as Rory E. Bos.
Bos, 26, of Shellsburg, was driving a pickup on 32nd Avenue when it left the roadway near 61st Street Lane and struck a ditch embankment, according to the Benton County sheriff's office. He was thrown from the vehicle.
Deputies were sent to the scene around 2:15 a.m. when the accident was reported. Bos was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only one who was in the pickup, authorities said.
Sheriff Randy Forsyth said investigators have not determined why the pickup left the road.
“They will be doing a vehicle examination tomorrow and waiting for tests to return,” Forsyth wrote in an e-mail.
According to an obituary sent to The Gazette, family and friends called Bos by the nickname ”Peaches.” He was a father to two children and worked as a screen printer in Cedar Rapids.
