DES MOINES (AP) - State investigators have completed their investigation into an eastern Iowa home where men with mental disabilities were employed at a meatpacking plant.
The Division of Criminal Investigation passed on its findings to the Muscatine County attorney's office. Prosecutor Dana Christensen says he'll now examine what he estimated as “15 pounds worth of reports.”
The state opened an investigation in February after reports that dozens of men with mental disabilities were living in a rundown house in Atalissa and working for little pay at the meatpacker. The state removed 21 men and the home operated by Texas-based Henry's Turkey Service was closed.
The company has denied any wrongdoing, and no charges have been filed.
