UPDATE: No serious injuries were reported after a lunchtime shooting in northeast Cedar Rapids that left a sedan riddled with bullet holes.
Police said at least 10 gunshots were fired at a black car around 11:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of E Avenue NE. A man and a woman were inside the car, and the man was shot in the calf, but he declined medical treatment.
Information about the shooter was not immediately released by police.
“We don't have any reason to believe the other neighborhood residents are in any immediate danger,” Sgt. Stephen Keiller said at the scene.
Bullets shattered the windows of the car, a Pontiac Grand Prix, leaving glass near the driver's side door. At least 14 bullet holes could be seen in the side of the car.
Keiller said the man and woman who were inside the car were being interviewed, to determine information about the shooter.
A witness said she saw a silver vehicle, possibly a sport-utility vehicle, going east at about 60 mph right after she heard the gunshots. She did not get a good look at the driver.
Sabrina King, 33, said she heard the gunshots in succession as she worked on the computer in her apartment nearby.
“I heard a lot of people yelling, and then people started coming outside,” King said.
An investigation was continuing, police said.
