IOWA CITY - A group of Eastern Iowans came together Saturday to raise awareness about the impact the Sudanese civil war is having on the country's citizens.
Art for Peace took place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St. in Iowa City. It featured speakers from the Lutheran Church of South Sudan and the American Red Cross, as well as a variety of local artwork.
Tom Sandersfeld, a member of the Lutheran Church of South Sudan, said the group is collecting medical supplies, food and funds to send to those suffering from famine and disease in Sudan.
