Aredale woman to serve six months in federal prison for perjury

CEDAR RAPIDS - An Aredale woman who committed perjury while testifying before a grand jury about her former boyfriend's involvement in marijuana trafficking was sentenced Tuesday to six months in federal prison.
Ashley Tufte, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of perjury Jan, 9. According to the plea agreement, Tufte admitted she lied while testifying before a federal grand jury about Nels Nelson of Cedar Rapids, convicted last year of distributing marijuana in a large scale drug operation from 2011 to 2013.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade also ordered Tufte to pay a $1,000 fine and serve a three-year term of supervised release after her prison time.
