CEDAR RAPIDS - Amy Johnson will officially become Linn County's latest supervisor on Monday.
A Wednesday Linn County news release states that Johnson, who has been a county resident for almost 30 years, will be officially sworn in as the county's District 2 supervisor at 8:45 a.m. Monday at the Linn County Public Services Center, 935 Second St S.W.
'I am honored and excited to have this unique opportunity to serve my county. I look forward to a very productive and positive six months with the other members of this board,” Johnson said in the release.
Johnson was chosen out of 11 District 2 applicants for the seat left vacant after former Supervisor Linda Langston announced earlier this month she would be resigning early to take a new job in Washington, D.C.
A special committee - County Auditor Joel Miller, County Recorder Joan McCalmant and County Treasurer Sharon Gonzalez - interviewed 11 applicants living in District 2, which includes much of Cedar Rapids, last week before choosing Johnson on Friday.
Miller, who wanted to wait until after the weekend to make a decision, abstained from the vote.
She will serve on the five-member board until after the November election, when the District 2 seat comes up for public vote.
