SMICKSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say an Amish woman from western Pennsylvania is dead, two days after suffering severe burns from an explosion that resulted when she added kerosene to a wood fire.
Indiana County Coroner Michael Baker said 32-year-old Ella D. Miller of Smicksburg died Wednesday morning from burns that nearly covered her body.
Baker says Miller was heating water in a large metal kettle for laundry when she threw kerosene from a plastic container onto the flames. That caused an explosion and her clothes caught fire.
State Police Trooper Shawn Compton says at the woman's request, her family and neighbors used home remedies to treat her for two days before calling 911 on Wednesday.
Baker and Compton say there's no apparent evidence of foul play.
