NORTH LIBERY - Three semi-trailer trucks collided on Interstate 380 this morning, snarling traffic for about two hours.
No one was injured in the wreck, which happened around 10 a.m. in the southbound lanes about a mile south of the North Liberty interchange.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Mike Hicks said traffic slowed down for an unknown reason, and one semi rear-ended another.
"He noticed traffic slowing down, and he applied the brakes, but just couldn't get stopped in time," Hicks said.
The semi that was rear-ended went into the left lane and struck a gravel truck, Hicks said. The gravel truck stopped partially in the median, while the other two semis ended up in the west ditch.
All three of the trucks were damaged. The gravel truck was able to leave the scene soon, but a tow truck was needed to pull the other two semis out of the ditch.
The right southbound lane was closed until the scene was cleared.
Hicks said the two original semis involved were carrying empty pallets and food products, respectively.
Charges are pending, Hicks said.
