DAVENPORT - An adult and two young children died in the Thursday night fire at the 5 Seasons Mobile Home Park in Davenport, according to Davenport fire officials.
The two children were pronounced dead at the Genesis Medical Center. The mother of the children also died. Two other children were taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City in critical condition, according to Interim Fire Marshal Jim Morris.
Names and ages are being withheld pending notification of family.
The home had no working smoke detectors in the mobile home, according to investigators.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire crews were called at 9:34 p.m. to the mobile home park on North Fairmount Street, where they found heavy smoke and fire, District Chief Joe Smith said in the release.
James Cole, the victims' neighbor, and his girlfriend were getting ready to lie down Thursday night when he heard sirens in the mobile home park.
'I saw them take a baby out and give CPR,” Cole said. 'Then, they took out three more babies. I was thinking ‘Where's the mother?'”
Cole said he saw the last fire crew leave around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Cole, who was friendly with the family, said the children were no older than 5.
Cole, who has 13 grandchildren, said he felt blessed but couldn't fathom how devastating the fire was to the family.
'They were good and nice people, just a woman with kids,” Cole said. 'I can't imagine what I'd do. It was just a mishap.”
