MARTELLE – Authorities said a 6-year-old boy was hurt when he fell from a tree house during a Memorial Day party.
The boy fell about eight feet through a trap door in the tree house at 401 South St. in Martelle, according to the Jones County sheriff's office. Deputy C.J. Sullivan said the boy was crying but conscious and breathing when he arrived.
The boy, identified as Evan Brase, of Mount Vernon, was flown by air ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Sullivan said the boy's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
“I think they were concerned about the fall, him hitting the ground and that he might have hit his head,” Sullivan said. “They wanted to get him to the hospital as soon as possible.”
Sullivan said there were other children in the area at the time of the accident.
