5 Corridor transportation projects get stimulus funds

Contracts for five transportation projects in the Corridor were awarded by the Iowa Department of Transportation this month with help from federal stimulus dollars.
Iowa will receive about $358 million for state and local transportation projects through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Sixteen transportation projects using some of the funds were on the DOT's letting schedule this month. They have been awarded contingent on final approval by the contractors and state.
Three traffic signal projects were awarded in Linn County, while two Johnson County projects included a new bridge on First Avenue Trail and new traffic signals on Highway 965 in North Liberty.
Following are the project awards:
- New bridge on First Avenue Trail in Coralville from Country Club Drive to Oakdale Boulevard; $382,548 contract to Peterson Contractors Inc., Reinbeck.
- Traffic signals on Highway 965 in North Liberty at Cherry Street and various intersections; $369,450 contract to Advanced Electrical Services Inc., Iowa City.
- Traffic signals on 10th Street at Seventh Avenue and from 700 to 1300 block and the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue in Marion; $750,000 contract to KWS Inc., Cedar Falls.
- Traffic signals on Tama Street in Marion at the intersections of Armar Drive, Tama Street and Highway 100; $479,740 contract to Rathje Construction Co., Marion.
- Traffic signals on Highway 100 in Marion at intersection with 22nd Street; $371,360 contract to city Wide Construction Corp., Cedar Rapids.
