It was an exceptionally dark night for some in Linn and Benton counties.
At around 12:20 a.m. power went out in a large section of the northeast side of Cedar Rapids, as well as parts of Palo and Shellsburg.
At the height of the outage, roughly 3,700 customers were in the dark.
Power was restored to most customers by 3:45 a.m.
Alliant Energy says the outage occurred after a line that feeds out of a downtown Cedar Rapids substation went out.
Alliant is still trying to figure out what caused that, but in the meantime has moved customers to an alternative line source.
