It took a crane and some muscle power to move a nearly 125-year-old piano from the second story of the Old Capitol building on the University of Iowa Campus.
Shalla Ashworth, director of operations at the University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums, said the piano will be sent to New York for a “major restoration.” The value of the piano is estimated at around $125,000, Ashworth said.
Crews successfully moved the piano from the second story of the building with the use of a crane. Ashworth said the University hopes to have the piano back early in the Fall semester.
Crews work to remove an 1878 grand piano from the upper level of the Old Capitol at the University of Iowa in Iowa City on the morning of Tuesday, May 31, 2011. (Matt Nelson/SourceMedia Group News)
